Madrid Teacher series: Louise's daily routines
This week's Madrid Teacher video is intended for Básico (elementary) students. Louise tells us all about her daily routine.
Here are the answers Louse gives to her friend. Before you watch the video, can you think what the questions are?
I wake up at eight-thirty, usually.
I have to have a cup of coffee, and usually some cereal.
I go to work around ten o’clock.
I have lunch around one o’clock.
I like to eat a sandwich.
I finish work at six o’clock, or six-thirty in the evening.
I walk.
It’s a twenty minute walk.
When I get home, I start to cook dinner, and while I’m cooking dinner, I watch television.
I eat dinner at eight o’clock.
I watch more television.
I go to bed at eleven o’clock.

Real English series: Present continuous and present simple

The interviewers asks all passers-by the same question:
Excuse, where are you going?

What does he do?
What does she do?
Remember we use the auxiliary do/does to make questions about the present simple with most verbs (the lexical verbs, that is, the normal verbs, those which have a meaning). Do is used with all the persons except with he / she / it (third person singular), with which we use does instead.
As usual, the interviewer revises some other questions that have come up in previous video clips:
Can you introduce me to your friend?
Can you spell your name, please?
Can you tell me something about your friend?
Can you give me two adjectives to describe your friend?

Grammar Genius: Present Simple vs Present Continuous
Hamilton House ELT has a more than interesting collection of videos on their YouTube channel.
On this video Básico 1 and Básico 2 students can revise the difference between present simple for habitual actions and present continous for actions we are doing now.
The video also shows some examples of stative verbs, [verbs that never take the present continuous form]: love, like, hate.
Finally, we can also see the use of present continuous to talk about fixed future plans (my cousing is coming; he's only staying for dinner; I'm staying for a week).

It combines, both English and Spanish, so it is suitable for Básico 1 students (beginners) or for Básico 2 students whose English is a bit rusty and want to brush it up.
Simply watch the video and make a note of everything the teacher says. You may want to stop the video on occasion to note down some of the explanations.

Mr Bean gets ready in a car
Self-study activity:
In this video, Mr Bean is running late for the dentist, so he gets ready in his car on the way.
Watch the scene and describe Mr Bean actions in the clip. Use the present simple in your sentences. And don't forget to use first, next, later, after that, afterwards, then, finally to sequence the actions.
Examples: Mr Bean leaves his house. Then he gets into his car.

Finally tell a friend or relative who also speaks English about your typical routine every morning. Try to be as specific as possible.
